Connecting to WordPress: how do I finally log in?

Tired of being left on the doorstep 🚪 when it comes to working on your site’s content? Then this article is for you!

Connecting to WordPress is very simple, but there are a few points to keep in mind as mistakes can sometimes poison your life.

Some solutions, like, password managers 🔐, will save you precious time.

We highly recommend adding one to your 🧰 toolbox. It’s extremely handy on the web 😉!

Finding your WordPress site’s login URL

The first thing you need to do to connect to WordPress is to find your site’s connection URL. It will allow you to access WordPress Admin and use the editing features.

You can do this by adding /wp-admin to the end of your website’s Url.

For example, if your site is called www.votresite.com, then your admin URL is www.votresite.com/wp-admin.

Clear, isn’t it 😕?

Connecting to the WordPress Backoffice

Once you’ve found the admin URL, you can connect to your WordPress Backoffice.

You’ll then need to enter your username and password.

If you didn’t have access to this information, contact a site administrator.

If you don’t remember your username or password, you can reset your password.

To do so, click on the “Forgot password” link and follow the on-screen instructions.

Common WordPress login problems

Here are some of the most common WordPress login problems:

  • Wrong username or password: users often enter an incorrect username or password, preventing them from logging in. You can reset your password if you can’t remember yours.
  • Your account is blocked: if you’ve entered the wrong password too many times in succession, your account may be blocked for a given period. Contact your web host or WordPress owner to unblock it.
  • Error 404: Thelogin Url may have been moved to reinforce site security, or the WordPress installation on your server may not be configured correctly.
  • Error 500: This error is usually caused by a corrupt or obsolete plugin or theme. Deactivate all plugins (or one by one) and/or reinstall the default theme to see if this solves the problem (you’ll need access to the site files to be able to do this).

Use a password manager to avoid WordPress login problems?

A password manager lets you securely store all your passwords in a single place (with much greater security than the browser’s “remember password” option).

You won’t have to worry about remembering dozens of different passwords for each of your online accounts.

Simply create an account and store all your passwords in one place.

Some password managers are hosted in the cloud and integrate with your browser as an extension (like LastPass, Dashlane, etc). That said, you may not want to entrust them with your banking details…

Others can be installed directly on your computer (like KeyPass).

They all have an autofill function that can automatically fill in your login details on the websites you visit.

This means you’ll be freed from tedious manual input of your login details for each connection, not to mention the fact that you’ll have a unique password for each site.

This last measure will save you a lot of trouble, should your unique password be discovered by a squad of cybercriminals, in the course of a server hack…

Before you go…

Logging into your WordPress site is easy once you know your site’s Admin login URL.

You’ll still need the correct login details for the account you want to use. A password manager will often save you from swearing like Captain Haddock…

By following these few rules, you can be sure that you’ll be able to connect to WordPress without any problems from now on.
